What Makes Auggie Autistic Special and A Must for Every Parent, Teacher, Classroom, and Child?
Auggie Autistic is not only for children, parents, teachers, and therapists—it is for any professional who works with children. The importance of this book extends far beyond its pages. While many children’s books introduce the topic of autism, Auggie Autistic stands apart by allowing Auggie, an autistic child, to teach children directly about the feelings, behaviors, and challenges autistic peers may experience. Through its engaging storytelling, the book encourages children to work inclusively and compassionately with classmates who have autism, fostering empathy, connection, and positive peer relationships.
What Makes Auggie Autistic Different?
Auggie Autistic is part of the Know How to Deal Series, a collection designed to transform real-life situations into meaningful lessons that build essential life skills. These books go beyond awareness—they promote understanding, engagement, and peer-building to help children form new friendships and support one another. Our focus is teaching all students about the struggles their peers with disabilities may face and helping them recognize the importance of patience, communication, and empathy. Sometimes the person they are trying to understand may not be able to communicate in the same way, and learning how to navigate that difference is a powerful skill.
As a special education company, we are dedicated to providing exceptional education and services to children with special needs. Our team of experienced professionals is passionate about helping every child reach their full potential. At Auggie Autistic, we believe that every child deserves a quality education and the support necessary to succeed—and our work reflects that commitment.

For more than 25 years, Heather has devoted her life to supporting children with learning disabilities. Her mission has always been to empower students—helping them build meaningful peer connections and transforming the way children with disabilities are taught and engaged in classrooms across America. Despite the progress made in education, many students with learning differences still do not receive the attention or understanding they deserve.
Throughout her career, Heather has identified recurring challenges within classrooms and felt compelled to share these insights with families, educators, and communities nationwide. Her work highlights the key factors that help students successfully integrate both socially and academically, ensuring they are seen, supported, and celebrated.
Her children’s book Auggie Autistic introduces young readers to how autism can shape a child’s experiences, encouraging empathy, acceptance, and informed interaction. It is part of her larger Knowing How to Deal series—a practical and essential resource that offers educators quick, accessible guidance on a wide range of disabilities. This series also includes titles such as Donnie Downs and Patty Pica, with more books to follow.
Through Auggie’s story and the entire series, Heather emphasizes that special education is never one-size-fits-all. Every child is unique, and teaching methods must adapt to meet individual needs. Her team of dedicated professionals—including special education teachers, behavior analysts, and speech therapists—shares this vision and works collaboratively to help students thrive both academically and personally.
Grounded in evidence-based practices and shaped by years of hands-on experience, Heather’s work reflects her unwavering commitment to creating inclusive, informed, and compassionate learning environments for every child.
We deliver exceptional results in everything we do. The goal of Auggie Autistic is to promote classroom engagement with interactive conversations. Engaging readers to gain knowledge of actions and reactions of students with autism and promote positive peer relationships.
Through Auggie Autistic, we believe that every child has the potential to learn and grow, regardless of their abilities or challenges. Auggie Autistic helps engage students to work together and learn about each others differences as we are all individuals. We are committed to providing a life changing learning approach with Auggie Autistic and other books in the Knowing How to Deal Series.
One out of every 36 children in the world is diagnosed with autism. In the world today there are over 75,000,000 million people diagnosed with autism. Since the year 2000, autism has risen by 178% in the world with boys 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls. The importance to teach all children how to interact appropriately with their peers is imperative and will change society as a whole for the better. In addition to the children's books, Knowing How to Deal Series we are launching an online program to work with students with disabilities for online educational support, counseling, speech, Physical and Occupational Therapies.
